Upon realizing that Christmas is a mere 10 days away and making a last minute decision to go to Hometown next weekend, I decided that I better finish up my Christmas shopping ASAP. So I headed to Amazon and put $200 worth of crap in my cart, because the giant banner on their site says I still have 4 to order days to ensure Christmas delivery. And everything I ordered stated that it was in stock. I got a couple of good deals, but most of it was pretty much in line with B&M store prices.
So I was pretty happy with myself for shopping so efficiently, and was ready to check out when Amazon informs me that only 1 of my items will arrive before Christmas and the rest will not ship until the first week of February. WTF??? On that very same screen it says that every item in my cart is in stock, so why the fuck can't it ship? I even tried upgrading to 1 day shipping--no luck.
I used to do a ton of shopping on Amazon, but their service has gotten so sucky that I rarely shop there anymore. Today I was reminded why.

I feel your pain. As I was shopping online at American Girl the status of items IN MY CART went from "available" to "backordered until February 2008." Yea...I guess Olie's not getting that set of striped PJ's for her doll this year
Really? I buy EVERYTHING through Amazon (and you can click on the affiliate links at my site to get there, btw ;) ) and I haven't had that problem yet. I have a steady stream of packages arriving. I do, however, only buy things shipped from an Amazon warehouse (i.e., eligible for Amazon Prime). Maybe that's the trick? I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time.
Nope, everything I ordered was supposed to come directly from Amazon. They have gotten a lot of my money over the years, but for the last year or two I have had several problems with them.
Re: their affiliate links, I set them up on my mothers of twins site years ago. That's pretty much how we pay for our website. Be careful if you are ordering from your own site, b/c when I set my affiliate account up, the TOU stated that I could not order through my own links. (Although that may have changed, because it has been a long time since I originally sighed up with them.)
Amazon pissed me off this week, too. I ordered a small item for my father, and paid a lot of extra dollars for the express shipping (yes, it was shipping from another vendor). When it still hadn't arrived on Friday, I looked up the tracking info to find that it had been "Mis-sorted by carrier" and was in Sunnyvale, CA.
I live on the OTHER coast.
Damn.
Oh no. :( Zuska, that's horrible. I will say that I did have one package of books "rescheduled for delivery" on Monday instead of last Thursday when they should have arrived.
I don't order through my own link. I go to Diary of a Law School Mom and order through hers.
I realized that every time I have ordered books through amazon. I always chose the free shipping and they always took about a month to arrive.
I have had it with Amazon. We tried to sell on Amazon and it has been a disaster. You can read the rest of that story on my blog.

Yeah, Amazon Sucks!
아마존 븅신!
The more I order, the worse they get. An order placed on 3/1 has a shipping estimate of 3/10 to 3/17. That's just unheard of these days. I used to get my orders within a week. I'm even signed up for the 1-Click ordering with standard shipment...which even still states 3-5 business days. Frustrating!
this SUX.. I ordered a psp expecting it to arrive in 3-5 days and it says it will arrive in 7-9 days! the psp was in stock and I didnt choose super saver shipping. I HAVE TO WAIT TWO WEEKS UNTIL I COME BACK INSTEAD OF 3 DAYS!!!!!! f*cking amazon!!!!!!
Omg amazon does suck. I bought something (still haven't gotten it) and its been in NJ for 2 weeks. I live in NY. I ordered something from california and it came in 3 days.
I started a sellers account and bought some products wholesale form a supplier. After quite a few sales and good feedback I found out that some of the products were defective and i did not know how many....so i canceled my listings and current orders until i could evealutae what was happening (thought i did the right thing)..AMAZON closed my account for too many orders canceled... They will not even discuss it... said they will hold my money for 90 days in case of claims and BYE..
I think i will start a new auction site... really...
Amazon not only sucks, but those SOB's stole close to $5000.00 from me. They suspend my account with perfect feedback and with out reason, then they say they will hold my funds for 90 days or more.
They said that 1 1/2 months ago. And get this; they can extend that period every 90 days after another review. What a crude bunch of thieves.
They really know how to make you feel like a worthless prostitute. At least prostitutes, receive pay for their work.

Formerly an Amazon Seller. Now a Amazon Victim.
Do not buy or sell from Amazon.. Horrendous is an understatement.
i totally agree. Amazon selling sucks. There is no way...i repeat no way to hold a customer responsible for their behavior. Their sellers customer service directs you ti India (that gets you nowhere) and the customer can claim anything from missing item in package (which is the best excuse since they can steal the item from the package and say it was missing when they received it).
This is ridiculous. I think i will try to sell on half.com and how that experience goes. Deleting my account from amazon. Amazon selling sucks
I would like to file a complaint against false information against Amazon. I ordered the above product on October 13. I received conformation that the product shipped on October 14 from a facility that is 45 mins away. The USPS tracking information stated that they had not received the package until today, October 17. That package is now in my hometown post office in less than a day. See if Amazon ACTUALLY sent that package on the 14 then there is no reason I would not have it on the 15 or 16 at the very latest. I believe that Amazon chose to hold my package and claim shipment because I did not want to pay out the extra money for speedy shipment. This same email will be posted on every review I can find as well as major social networks. I want everyone to know how Amazon is playing them when shipping their products.

I'm fed up with amazon too. It started out with them holding my money made from selling on Marketplace for no reason, but that is just the beginning. Their master plan is to force the competition out of business by temporarily giving low prices and then screwing everyone when they are the only major source of books left. I got so angry that I started an anti-amazon blog: amazonfraud.recessionstories.net . I am particularly looking for contributions from amazon employees with the inside dirt on the company. My blog covers also covers Amazon's virtual sweatshop Mechanical Turk and its other devious doings.
I share the pain of merchants who have been shut down for no good reason.. and their funds being withheld for 90 days.. They did the same thing to me, totally unjustified. It is obvious that Amazon is running some kind of a scam.. a great cash flow mechanism, I must admit. The entire process is arbitrary and unfair for the merchant. Please write a letter to SEC, FTC, and to the D.A. of your state. Something gotta give because this is an absolute scam.
Sending mismatched shoes, when I've paid almost 100 dollars for them, and then not finding a way to fill my order, is totally unacceptable. It makes your company look, frankly, retarded.
There are only two items in a shoe-box: a right and left shoe. The fact that nobody opened the box and gave a quick glance at these two items before shipping, is inexcusable.
And with your vast network of suppliers and resources, the fact that you can't figure out a way to restock and re-deliver the product you promised me, makes me reluctant to ever put my faith in Amazon again.
And another thing: You might think about being especially sensitive about the delivery of white shoes. They are likely to be a wedding item, and hence untimely or incorrect fulfillment of an order can seriously distress someone.
You have cordial customer service reps, but awful quality control, and lame-duck follow-through.
I'm gravely disappointed. Despite the refund, I don't feel we are square.
I have mostly had good results with Amazon. But today I received a package they claimed contained two books, only to find one book and an invoice claiming both books were in there. THE BOX WAS TOO SMALL FOR BOTH BOOKS!
I doubt I will trust them with another order.
I work for Amazon :)
Just saying this year alone at my warehouse site we have constantly struggled with the such high demand. Right now we have 150 people who have to package ~40/50K items daily to meet the demand around Christmas time. And mind you we are only .8% of what Amazon packages everyday. The smallest site Amazon has. We will need a much bigger building to be made if we want to survive even next years season as are orders just keep growing as it is and we are packing at a rate of 6K orders an hour. Mandatory 60 hour weeks for all shifts till the end of the year. Just saying all this because im working as hard as possible to try to get those orders packaged on time and out the door when they need to. Sadly there is so much to be done it is almost impossible to get everything out on time on a daily basis.
Ugggg!!!! I know!!! I ordered 4 school books through Amazon and I haven't received ANY of them yet...and I'm in the 3rd week of school. I want to freak out on somebody...but they are all separate sellers HARUMPH!!!!
I can go one better, In the past year I purchased over a Thousand dollars of merchandise on Amazon. A good bit of it I had to return. Why ? Because the CD's I bought arrived with cracked cases or the spines that hold the Disk were broker and the CD fell out, the Outdoor Thermometer was broken. The Wireless phone stated in the description that it had the capibility to connect to a Cell phone, but when I read the instructions and called Panasonic, I found out that that model did Not have that function. So after a week or so Amazon sends me an email that my account has been cancelled due to me returning too many items. " Was I supposed to keep damaged stuff" ? They pack CD's in cardboard with no padding and wonder why they get cracked or smashed jewel cases? I also paid for Prime shipping $70.00, now I cannot order and they will not refund me the cost. So this is how Amazon treats it's customers, let alone the fact that some of the private Sellers sell way above retail, especially Hobby stuff. I can get it a AC Moore for less and get 50% off one item also. I bought a Spiderman II Movie DVD once from a Amazon Seller, it shipped from China and was a DVD-RW copy. It took me weeks to get a refund. Please Buy elsewhere !
I agree, I have been a amazon seller for two years and hate it... I have decided I am done. I hope they go down!
Check out http://kathrynsheehan.com/ as it does ring true, "what goes around comes around" when it comes to Amazon's head legal counsel.
Back in March, we were warned that our defect and negative feedback rates were too high, and we would need to resolve, or our account would be suspended.
The defect rate we had was 3 issues out of approx 100 shipments, which is 3%. In fact, 2 issues were caused by UPS damaging the items, which were immediately taken care of. The 3rd was a legitimate problem, which was resolved over the phone.
As for the negative feedback, we received negatives from the two customers with UPS damaged items. One of which was removed by the buyer once we resolved the issue. However, because we only had received 2 or 3 positives out of 100's of orders, even though we always asked for +FB, our negative feedback rating was deemed to be way too high.
Well, you guessed it, in mid-April, we received notice that our seller account had been permanently suspended, and funds in our account will be held for 90-days. At that moment, we had almost $10,000 in the account, which was not released until mid-July.
First, Amazon's rating system for sellers is completely ridiculous. Secondly, to permanently suspend a seller account who had 100's of satisfied customers and only 3 or 4 completely resolved issues is outrageous. Thirdly, to withhold payment of 100% of the funds for successfully shipped and received orders for 90-days is unethical if not borderline criminal.
I am making it one of my missions in life now, to warn anyone and everyone I come into contact with NOT to buy or sell through Amazon. Aside from stripping 600 employees at their former fulfillment center in Dallas of their jobs, so they can screw Texas out of sales tax, they are terrible to deal with as a seller.
In conclusion, Amazon SUCKS and I would hope everyone who reads this will help the free market punish them by not doing business with or through Amazon every again.
Could not agree more with you. Amazon Seller's are getting screwed. I just went through a serious problem concerning a $1,500 item. In short, Amazon told me to screw off even though the Buyer admits she "no longer needs the item" (those are Amazon quotes- I posted the e-mails).
I blogged about it at

I made it my mission to warn other sellers.

read the interview if you want to screw amazon
I am yet another screwed seller. All it took was a single lie from a competitor that I was making counterfeit merchandise for them to shut me down and hold $6,000 which they say they will not give for more than 90 days. I sent the items out in god faith and they have not once made a disbursemnt. They always have some rule not to pay me. It has been 3 months and not once have they paid me yet. DO NOT BUY OR SELL ON AMAZON!!!
