Today I got a rejection letter from a firm that I swear I have never applied with. And it's
BigLaw, so I am pretty sure I would remember. (Besides, I have a spreadsheet to keep track of these things.) I think it is not a good sign when I am rejected before I even apply.

Ew - weird! You don't think your family is sending out resumes for you, do you? Your school's career services office? Don't take it personally -- I see excellent candidates getting rejected by my firm all the time for reasons that are really arbitrary.
Nah, I don't think anyone else is sending out resumes for me. I figured it was a glitch in the school's OCI system or something like that.
My post was pretty tongue-in-cheek. Even I can see the humor in being rejected where I haven't even applied.
Oops, I have a horrible sense of when people are joking!
You should send them a letter back that says something like: "Thank you for your recent interest in me, however, I really don't think your firm is good enough to have me."

Don't worry about it--it's hard to read someone in print. And I have a very dry sense of humor, so most people IRL don't even know when I'm joking!

Heehee. I love it--I only wish I were ballsy enough to do that.
