I trekked out to buy my books today. $456. Not too bad considering their estimate was $850. My intention was to leave the house at 8:00 this morning so that I could experience what traffic would be like for my 60 mile commute. I actually left about 8:30, and traffic wasn't too bad, but there's road construction going on along the entire length of the interstate that makes up 99% of my comute. That will be fun.
At the bookstore, a helpful upperclassman pointed me toward the right books. He also highly recommended that I pick up "Getting to Maybe". In fact, he said that I should "read it twice". He said it deadpan, but I can't help but wonder if he was just messing with a naive 1L trying to get ahead. I can imagine some experiment where the bookstore staff tries to see how many extras they can pile on to unsuspecting 1L's...but maybe I'm too cynical. Anyway, I bought the book. I've heard it recommended other places, and it was all coming off a voucher against my student loans, so what the heck?
When I unloaded the books at home the twins were arguing over who got to look at the Madeline book. For some reason "Getting to Maybe" has a little girl dressed just like Madeline on the cover. Fortunately, the fight was short-lived once they realized that there were no pictures inside the book.
OK, so I got into law school. Not the one I wanted, and not exactly a top ten or even a top tier, but my options were limited. I'm just happy to be going. Most of the people I know think I'm slightly insane. I have 3 year old twins and a 5 year old. For the past six years my only job has been to take care of them. Why would I want to suddenly abandon theme to the day care system and go to law school? Well, if I stay home any longer I will be legally certifiable.Anyway, I have recently become hooked on blogs of other law students. The only problem is that most of them started toward the end of their 1L year. I thought I would start one from the beginning. We'll see how long it lasts once classes actually start, but I'll give it a shot.
